In Peru, deforestation is a serious problem caused mainly by agricultural expansion and soil degradation. To address this problem, this project aims to protect 500 hectares of forest on cocoa farms by implementing sustainable agroforestry practices. This project seeks to improve the quality and productivity of organic cocoa through technical assistance and the promotion of climate-smart agriculture.
The Central Cacao de Aroma de Tocache Cooperative (CECAT) is the main beneficiary of the project, as it seeks to consolidate its income and sustainable employment through organic certification and fair trade. This project aims to contribute to forest conservation and the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions, while promoting inclusive practices in cocoa production in the Peruvian Amazon.
In addition, CECAT will provide a financial contribution from other projects to improve the business, commercial, social and production management of cocoa.
