How to apply

The project aims to improve the ecotourism value proposition of the Baawaja Expeditions, Posada Amazonas and Tambopata Research Center lodges located within the Tambopata National Reserve and the Infierno Native Community. The project seeks to conserve 17,458 hectares and transfer management knowledge to the lodges of the Infierno Native Community to implement citizen science activities focused on the discovery and monitoring of new species, as well as implement sustainability commitments in ecotourism services.

In addition, with technical assistance from Rainforest Expeditions, we hope to strengthen the management capacity and positioning of the Baawaja Expeditions lodge, and improve the quality of the services provided by its suppliers in order to increase the quality of its tourism offerings, the scope of its outreach channels and the transmission of its culture and living tradition.

NATIVE COMMUNITY OF INFIERNO

The Native Community of Infierno, located in the Madre de Dios region, obtained legal recognition of their inalienable territorial rights through the Native Communities Law in 1974. This community has managed to develop a tourist lodge in collaboration with Rainforest Expeditions, and thanks to their experience in ecotourism, they now manage 60% of the lodge. In addition, the community has been actively involved in the conservation of the biodiversity of their ancestral land, facing challenges such as illegal logging, deforestation and habitat loss.

The Native Community of Infierno has demonstrated that biodiversity conservation and sustainable development do not have to be in conflict. By working in partnership with responsible companies and with a long-term vision, local communities can reap economic benefits and preserve their culture and land for future generations.

PROJECT PARTNERS

The project's implementing partner is Profonanpe, an organization with an extensive track record in managing funds for biodiversity conservation and climate change mitigation. Rainforest Expeditions is also a strategic partner with extensive experience in the ecotourism sector.

The combination of both experiences is decisive, as it will promote an enriching exchange of knowledge and favor a collaborative construction of knowledge with the native community of Infierno.
