We Are at COP16: Promoting Financial Innovation and Sustainable Businesses for the Conservation of the Amazon

The Amazon Business Alliance will be present at COP16 to highlight the transformative role of financial innovation and sustainable businesses in conserving the Peruvian Amazon and improving the well-being of the people living there. In this context, we are organizing two events that will showcase various cases and perspectives on biodiversity financing. These events will feature highly esteemed panelists with extensive global experience, fostering provocative and enriching conversations.

1. Allies for the Amazon: Uniting Businesses and Biodiversity

Date: Friday, 25th October, 18:15 – 19:45

This event will explore how businesses can become strategic allies of biodiversity, emphasizing the importance of collaboration among multiple actors to protect the Amazon. We will also explore the development of a favorable environment for the growth of sustainable businesses and impact investments. In this context, we will present the Biocredit, an innovative financial mechanism co-created with FEPCMAC, which has enabled access to credit for individuals and organizations implementing sustainable agricultural practices, following the Ministry of Environment (MINAM) criteria.

2.⁠ ⁠Financial Innovation for the Amazon

Date: Monday, 28th October, 17:30 – 19:00

This event will focus on the presentation of the Amazon Business Alliance and cases like the Biocredit, a pioneering microcredit product developed in collaboration with FEPCMAC. This financial instrument has the potential to transform sustainable investment in the Amazon, promoting responsible economic growth within the framework of climate finance. We will also hear from private sector representatives to discuss gaps that need to be addressed to ensure a sustained flow of investment toward biodiversity-friendly practices.
