Approval of Directive for the Elaboration of Projects with a Gender and Intercultural Approach in San Martin

Oct 27, 2022
The Regional Government of San Martin through the Regional Directorate of Inclusion and Equal Opportunities, the Ministry of Women and Vulnerable Populations and the Amazon Business Alliance, a platform promoted by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), the Government of Canada and Conservation International, promoted the development and approval of the "Guidelines for the Development of Public Investment Projects with a Gender and Intercultural Approach in the Regional Government of San Martin".

The purpose of this directive is to establish provisions and guidelines for the incorporation of gender and intercultural approaches in the formulation of pre-investment studies, including profile studies, technical sheets or other technical documents, under the jurisdiction of the Regional Government of San Martin, within the framework of the National System of Multiannual Programming and Investment Management (INVIERTE.PE).

This ensures that public investment projects prioritized by GORESAM that contribute to reducing gaps in infrastructure or access to public services have a greater impact on the reduction or elimination of inequalities and/or gender gaps and ethnic-racial discrimination, and contribute to the total or partial solution of the problems and differentiated needs of women and men and indigenous peoples.

In this regard, the Regional Director of Inclusion and Equal Opportunities, Milagros Sánchez Vargas, said that the directive will be mandatory for the organizational units of the central headquarters and decentralized bodies of the Regional Government of San Martin, linked to the National System of Multiannual Programming and Investment Management. The approval of this directive is an important milestone to contribute to the closing of gender gaps and the provision of culturally relevant services.

Within the framework of the Amazon Business Alliance and its gender and intercultural approach for the development of sustainable business and investment, the aim is to replicate the joint work and the type of content of this directive in the other regions where the project is being implemented.
